What's in a name?
"Gem Cutters" or "Diamond Cutters"

I have been a Cutters fan since the forming of the team and have followed their performance with a keen interest over the last couple of seasons. To see them play at there best and hear how their success has spread far and wide I am sure has provided all their fans with an example to follow. Those fans that follow them at a distant would not be aware from where they are true inspiration, motivation & dedication comes. I am sure everyone at some stage has asked: Who are these "Diamond Cutters"? How did they get their name? Where do they receive their strength to go on and on, week after week? As the Chaplain of the team I can with all sincerity testify that the source & foundation of their success is, none other than the Covenant God Himself (as they would point out if asked). Don't be fooled by all the hype that surrounds the team and individual players, above all what gets them through week in, week out is their Christian faith grounded in daily reliance & dependence on God who sustains and strengthens them.

Those of you who are unaware even their name originates from a Bible verse found in Exodus 28:11 – "Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal" (NIV). The gem cutter (or "diamond cutter" as they prefer to be called) had the job of engraving the names of the sons of Israel that is the 12 tribes of Israel representing the whole covenant people of God on two precious stones. This in turn were sown on a garment called the ephod that the High Priest, Aaron wore as a symbol, representing the Israelite people in worship before a Holy & Just God. What an awesome picture of Christ Jesus as our High Priest who represents all those who have placed their faith and trust in Him. "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator (High Priest = representative) between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men - the testimony given in its proper time." (1 Timothy 2:3)

Therefore, to be a true follower of the Diamond Cutters the Holy Spirit must engrave your name on the ephod of Jesus to be your only Mediator before God.
