DIAMOND CUTTERS 51, The Hubs
32
WHAT HUBS?
Just two weeks after their last meeting in which most of the Hubs
failed to turn up in a clearly distinguishable show of disrespect,
this weeks Cutters-Hubs match was allways going to be of the
"Grudge" variety.
It was also one for the Cutters' record books, as they fielded a
full squad of seven players including Jason Wong and the returning
Dave Levene, and went 5-and-0, best ever winning streak by any
Cutters team.
Despite a slow start and some particularly jail-rules defense
dispensed by "Unknown Asian Origin Man" and "Sticks", the Cutters
dealt a fully-customised ass whoopin' that thorougly met all the
Hubs needs.
Jason Wong starred at both ends, finishing with 13 after a
highlight-reel final second buzzer beater. Wong shares MVP with Dave
"flibbertigibbet" Levene, who layed down the law defensively the
whole game along with his 5 points. Ben dealt a merciless 9, Kep a
cold blooded 8, Scott and Johan drained 4 apiece and Tim plugged 2.
The Cutters' insurmountable big 3 combination of Tim, Scott and
Johan set the tempo of the game, absorbing all rebounds and
declaring the paint a no-fly zone.
Despite being disappointed in his own performance, Yochem "the
silent wind of doom" Van Leeuwen provided many of the games
highlight plays including a huge reality-check block on Papadum, a
pinpoint alley-oop pass to the fastbreaking Kep and a champagne
one-on-one fastbreak against Shaggy-Derro in which Yoch faked left,
went right and 'Derro's ankles could be heard to snap clean off from
across the court. Big Yoch was left to scoop the ball in the basket,
and Shaggy-Derro was left flat on his back on the pine, enjoying the
new-found humility given him by the ever-generous Yoch.
Fans are advised to attend a Cutters game at their next
opportunity, or risk being called a "scab" or "bandwagonjumper" when
the inevitable Cutters grand final rolls around. Even head referee
Neil last night expressed his love of the Cutters way of life,
saying "There are those of us who fight to be rostered to umpire a
Cutters game, it's because of their cheer squad.
m-m-mmmmmmm!"
