DIAMOND CUTTERS 52, Tranmere
38
WHERE
THE PARTY AT?
The golden age of Cutters
continued last night, as they defeated the rotund Tranmere to go 6
and 0, by far the best record in the division. It was a near thing,
however, as the complacent Cutters side, missing the inside
domination of Scott “Brut 33” DeBruyn, took their pudgey opposition
for granted and almost coughed up the game.
The message sent to all
Cutters players is a clear one: Ignore it and it will go away. The
winning streak that is.
The Cutters are in dire need of a
practice session to bring skills and fitness up to the levels they
were when this winning streak started.
It was not all bad news
though. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t “The Duchess of
Handles” Ben Ferguson’s MVP clinching 26 points at about 60% be
something of a Cutters franchise record?
Johan “The Archbishop” Vanleeuwen
also produced a sturdy game, lending 11 points to the cause. Kep
added 8 points, all of them in the first half before going cold in
the second. Tim donated 2 points and some aussie-rules rebounding,
despite being landed in foul trouble by some very dubious calls.
Dave gave up 2 points and his classical no-nonsense defense kept the
bastards honest.
In what was generally a
lack-lustre game by any standard, the only drama unfolded as Dave
was on the receiving end of a huge hip-n-shoulder tackle from a
120kg + Tranmere missing link late in the second. Dave bounced and
slid nearly the length of the court but was unhurt. The offending
beast of burden wanted a further piece of Dave but was quickly put
back in his place by other Cutters Players.
For further confirmation of
the “boring” nature of the game the Cutters fan club (comprising of
only 2 Van Leeuwen sisters) deserted the bench mid-game, saying: “We
were bored. Yeah, we went and played netball on the other court.”
This fact remains, however, The
Cutters are 6-0, breaking records each week with no end in sight.
We’ll see you at the game.
