The Diamond Cutters last night showed they were not yet up to
true form, losing their preseason match versus the Stags, 37-16. The
long break from play proved costly for the Cutters, with rusty
skills and poor shooting hampering efforts all night. The events of
the past week were also weighing heavily on their minds, the players
sporting black armbands as a mark of respect for the victims of the
tragedies in the United States.
There weren’t many positives to be taken from the match, however
European import Csaba Dostzan made a strong impression in his first
game, and showed signs of becoming a valuable player off the bench
for the Cutters. Scotty de Bruyn played the most consistently for
the Cutters, scoring eight of the Cutters 16 points and claiming MVP
in the process, whilst Yochem ‘the weapon’ had a rare shocker and
went for 4, and Tim and Kep 2 each.
Stars Wong and Dave were unavailable for the match, having failed
final fitness tests just before the game. Yochem ‘The Weapon’ looks
in doubt for next week’s match versus Wake Forest, following a
shoulder injury late in the game.
There were glimpses of what can be expected this season from the
Cutters, however we will have to wait for the season proper to start
to see if this potential equates into the Cutters first
championship.
The Diamond Cutters next week on the 24th September
